Laurel vs Yanny: What Does Sound Frequency Mean to Your Brand Message?
In 2018, a viral audio clip took the internet by storm. The clip consisted of a computer-generated voice saying a single word, which some people heard as “Laurel” while others heard “Yanny.” The phenomenon sparked a heated debate on social media and news outlets, with experts weighing in on the scientific explanation behind the auditory illusion. But what does this viral sensation have to do with your brand messaging?
The answer lies in the concept of sound frequency, which is the number of sound waves per second that determine the pitch of a sound. The Laurel vs Yanny audio clip was created using a combination of frequencies that made it difficult for some people to distinguish between the two words. The difference in perception was due to the listener’s individual hearing ability and the way in which their brain processed the auditory input.
When it comes to brand messaging, sound frequency plays a crucial role in how your message is perceived by your target audience. Different frequencies can create different emotional responses and associations with your brand, which can ultimately impact consumer behavior and purchasing decisions. For example, using high-pitched frequencies in your audio marketing may appeal more to younger audiences, while lower frequencies may be more appealing to older demographics.
In addition to creating emotional associations, the specific tone and pitch of your brand’s audio messaging can also communicate specific messages to your audience. For example, a lower-pitched voice may communicate authority and expertise, while a higher-pitched voice may communicate excitement and enthusiasm.
Moreover, the choice of music or sound effects in your audio marketing can also affect the perception of your brand. Fast-paced, upbeat music may be more suitable for a brand targeting a younger audience, while slower, more calming music may be more appropriate for a brand targeting an older demographic.
In conclusion, understanding the role of sound frequency in your brand messaging can help you create audio content that resonates more strongly with your target audience and better communicates your brand’s message. By choosing the right frequencies, tone, and music, you can create a memorable and impactful audio experience that enhances your brand identity and engages your audience.

Consumers who have dyslexia can interpret your brand message differently
Dyslexia is a learning disorder that affects a person’s ability to read, write, and spell. Approximately 10% of the world’s population has dyslexia, which means millions of people may interpret brand messages differently. In this blog, we will explore how someone with dyslexia may interpret a brand message differently and what it could mean for them.
Firstly, it’s essential to understand that dyslexia affects each person differently. Some people may struggle with letter shapes and orientation, while others may struggle with reading words with complex letter combinations. As a result, someone with dyslexia may interpret a brand message differently than someone without dyslexia.
For example, a brand message that relies heavily on written text may be more challenging for someone with dyslexia to understand. They may need help reading and comprehending the text, which could impact their ability to understand the brand’s message. This could result in them interpreting the brand message differently than someone without dyslexia.
Additionally, dyslexia can also impact short-term memory, which means that someone with dyslexia may have difficulty remembering critical points of the brand message. This could result in them missing important information or interpreting the message differently.
It’s also worth noting that dyslexia can be a source of frustration and anxiety for some people. If someone with dyslexia struggles to understand a brand message, it could make them feel embarrassed or self-conscious, which could impact their willingness to engage with the brand.
So, what does this mean for brands? Firstly, it’s vital to ensure that brand messages are clear and easy to understand. Brands that rely heavily on written text may want to consider using other forms of communication, such as visuals or videos, to ensure that the message is accessible to all consumers.
Secondly, brands should be aware that some people with dyslexia may require more time and effort to understand their message, which could impact their ability to process other information about the brand. Brands should ensure that their messaging is clear, concise, and easy to understand so that all consumers can easily understand it.
In conclusion, dyslexia is a learning disorder that affects a significant portion of the population. Brands should be aware of the challenges that dyslexia can present and strive to make their brand messages as clear and easy to understand as possible. By doing so, brands can ensure that their messaging is accessible to all consumers, regardless of their reading ability.

Metrics That Matter: Effective Ways to Measure Branding Success and Impact
Building a strong brand is a critical objective for entrepreneurs, but measuring the success and impact of branding efforts can be challenging. While it may seem intangible, brand performance can be quantified through various metrics that provide valuable insights. In this blog, we will explore some effective ways to measure the success and impact of your branding efforts, enabling you to make data-driven decisions and optimize your brand strategy.
Brand Awareness
One of the primary indicators of branding success is brand awareness. Measure it through metrics such as website traffic, social media followers, search volume, or surveys that assess brand recognition among your target audience. Monitoring the growth and reach of your brand awareness over time provides a tangible measure of your branding efforts’ impact.
Customer Engagement
Customer engagement metrics gauge the level of interaction and involvement with your brand. Track metrics like social media engagement (likes, comments, shares), email open rates, click-through rates, or time spent on your website. Increasing engagement signifies a strong brand connection, indicating that your messaging, content, and brand experience resonate with your audience.
Brand Perception
Understanding how your brand is perceived is crucial for assessing the effectiveness of your branding efforts. Surveys, focus groups, and customer feedback can provide insights into brand perception, measuring factors like brand image, reputation, trust, and associations. Monitor sentiment analysis, customer reviews, and brand sentiment on social media platforms to gauge overall brand perception.
Customer Loyalty and Advocacy
Loyal customers are key brand assets. Measure customer loyalty through metrics such as repeat purchases, customer retention rates, and customer lifetime value. Additionally, track metrics related to customer advocacy, such as referrals, positive reviews, or user-generated content. A strong base of loyal customers and brand advocates indicates the success of your branding efforts in building customer relationships.
Market Differentiation
Effective branding should differentiate your business from competitors. Conduct market research and competitor analysis to measure your brand’s distinctiveness and positioning. Compare metrics like market share, brand mentions, customer preference, or perceived uniqueness to assess how well your brand stands out in the market.
Employee Alignment and Satisfaction
Your employees play a vital role in delivering your brand experience. Measure employee alignment with brand values and satisfaction through surveys, feedback mechanisms, or performance indicators. Engaged and satisfied employees who embody your brand values contribute to a consistent brand experience and positively impact customer perception.
Financial Performance
While financial metrics do not directly capture the essence of branding, they reflect the overall impact of your brand on business results. Monitor metrics such as revenue growth, profit margins, customer acquisition costs, or return on investment (ROI). Assess the correlation between branding initiatives and financial performance to determine the effectiveness of your brand strategy.
Brand Equity
Brand equity represents the intangible value of your brand. It encapsulates factors like brand recognition, reputation, customer loyalty, and perceived quality. While it can be challenging to measure precisely, consider using methods like brand equity models, brand valuation techniques, or customer-based brand equity surveys to gain insights into your brand’s intangible worth.
Surveys and Feedback
Conduct regular surveys, focus groups, and customer feedback sessions to gather direct input on brand perception, customer experience, and satisfaction. Use standardized measurement scales like Net Promoter Score (NPS) or brand satisfaction scores to track changes and identify areas for improvement.
Comparative Analysis
Benchmark your brand against competitors and industry peers. Compare key metrics like market share, customer satisfaction, brand loyalty, or social media performance to gain insights into how your brand performs relative to others in your market segment.
Conclusion
Measuring the success and impact of your branding efforts is essential for understanding your brand’s performance and making informed decisions. By utilizing a combination of metrics such as brand awareness, customer engagement, brand perception, customer loyalty, market differentiation, employee alignment, financial performance, brand equity, and feedback, you can gain a comprehensive view of your branding effectiveness. Regularly track and analyze these metrics to identify areas for improvement, optimize your brand strategy, and continuously enhance your brand’s impact on your target audience and overall business success.
